It’s funny how our curiosity to learn more could play against us sometimes. Some of us develop an Information Hunger, wanting to know more and more about a certain topic. It’s certainly the case of those who got the Self-Growth or Spiritual “bugs”. It’s a topic so fascinating that opens the door to so much interesting knowledge, that you can’t help yourself: you want to know more … and more … and more…compass_align
The problem arises when you don’t realize the difference between acquired knowledge (and increased awareness that comes with it), and embodying that knowledge to walk your talk. We become so entangled in that fascinating world of increased awareness (based on the new perspectives about the world that brings with it) that we could get disconnected from our own reality.
Here’s what I mean by that: most of the time, that Information Hunger is driven by a willingness to live a better life, a life on purpose. Deep inside we all want to make a difference at least in our own life, if not of others. It is a valid reason to look into increasing your awareness, but without proper action … nothing changes! Spending time, and sometimes money, to learn more doesn’t naturally bring a better life or makes a difference in real life. Only the results count, and they are driven by the actions we take. Spending too much time on learning, without taking action upon it, it’s like preparing the food without eating it. And we might wonder where’s the missing part: “I know more now, why my life doesn’t change for the better?!”
A possible answer: “Because the knowing does not equal results! The Information Hunger is “eating” so much of your time and resources that you might not even realize that you didn’t take consistent actions in parallel to build the life you want for you and others. It became an (unconscious) reason to procrastinate: “I don’t know enough. This book/ program is so interesting, I need to read/ follow it! And this one… and this one…” So not much time spent the actions that could bring the expected results.
You’ve got the picture by now, did you?!

Another side of the coin has a similar effect to Information Hunger: believing that your knowing is enough. “Oh, I already know that!”, but not taking action upon it. Without incorporating what you know into your day to day life, the knowing will not lead to progress either! Contrary, it will make you go in circles, attracting similar experiences and concluding by “The world is [this way] !” (no good people to meet, no opportunities in my field, … ). So you get stuck into your own conditioning, and life will follow through to fit your belief! 🙂 Have you heard of “Self-fulfilling prophecy”? That’s what happens!
One way to get out of it is through increasing your knowledge about the world, and taking actions to improve your own life, instead of waiting for opportunities to fall into your lap! 🙂

To be honest with you, I had the Information Hunger “bug” for several years… which put my own life into the procrastination mode. No progress during that time, it even got worse. Coming out on the other side, I thought you might want to know there is better way:
When Information Hunger is coupled with specific actions that align us with our own life purpose, the happiness starts pouring from within! We feel more alive, less inclined to shift away from our life purpose (to be blown away by the “outer wind”), and we get more energy to take the required actions to get there.
We might also get energy by indulging in the things we like, but it has a temporary effect if they’re not aligned with our life purpose.

Do you have “Information Hunger”? How’s that working for you?
