Two days ago I made a wrong move coming home, and I ended up barely walking and with a swollen knee. It’s the same one that got hurt a month ago, in the bus… so it was already sensitive. I thought it was healed, since it didn’t manifest any pain lately… so no special attention to it… obviously I was wrong! 🙂

I had all the time since, to think about what happened. It was a rainy day, and I was rushing through the rain, happy that I’ll work in a few minutes on a product very dear to me (and a gift for my daughter’s wedding!): a new photo-coaching album. I’ve got so caught in my happiness that I forgot to pay attention to the moment, and ouch… wrong move! 🙁

I spent two days and a half lying down, massaging my knee and treating it with much more attention (putting cabbage around to help the healing process, moving very slowly, etc.).

Two hours ago I’ve decided to go for an adventure: grocery shopping to the No-Frills around the corner (30m away from my building). What an interesting experience, despite the looooong time it took me to get back! Walking very slowly, to not feel the pain, I had the time to notice and enjoy the yellowish flowered bushes, the wind gently blowing, the warmth of the sunlight on my face… what a treat! I also noticed many people rushing to go somewhere, very serious, caught into their thoughts … without noticing and enjoying the moment! Been there, done that! 🙂 But today I experienced a totally different world: the “slow” world. Did I have any choice?! 🙂 A world where you have time to be present, to enjoy the moment, to notice what’s happening around you, to make connections in your mind without getting caught in some emotions from the past or anticipating the future… it’s such a different world! Children and older people experience much more often this world, if we don’t rush them to comply with our world of busy people.

I’m not saying that is a better or worse world, it’s just different. And I’m grateful that I was able to experience it.

Since now I’m more aware of it, I will allow myself  more often to detach from my thoughts and emotions (especially in places where I have to focus on something else), and to notice how this “slow” world is showing me its beautiful side.

What about you? Do you often get caught in emotions or thoughts about the past or future, without noticing and enjoying the present moment?

Thanks Kathy! I loved the way you said it. Even me, I had to go through this experience in order to get it..
I envision a world where we pay more attention without being “forced” to do it by physical circumstances… what a wonderful world! And I believe we’ll get there.. slowly, but surely. 🙂 Sharing our experiences with others, like we do on blogs and not only, put the seeds for others to get it too… in time.

I have had several opportunities in the past few years to slow down and “smell the roses” thanks to ankle tweaks and whatnot. I’ve blogged about it too – very similar themes.

These whispers that come and bring us an opportunity to choose to be in the moment; to flow with what is rather than bemoan what is not. Not everyone gets it, Gabriela – you do!

    Gabriela,

I am very sorry you have a swallen knee, yet it was lucky to not have anything broken. I hope you will get well soon to enjoy your daughter’s wedding.
What you mention here holds 100% true. I have learned it a few years ago.

Thanks Flavia! My knee is getting better every day, and I learn so much in between. 🙂 It’s like a well deserved vacation… to reconnect with myself and this wonderful world. My daughter’s wedding was postponed (not because of my knee, for sure), this gives me time to heal it.
I think the most important thing, after we learn something, is to practice it until it becomes a second nature. I worked on this today too. 🙂

    Gabriela,

I do. I am always thinking of what I need to do to ensure the future goes okay.

On occasion, I do stop to “smell the roses.” And I am then reminded of how important it is to do it more often.

Thank you for sharing your story. I’m in my “outdoor office” (back patio with garden) today working a bit. The grapes are growing well this year. 🙂

I happy for you Keri, that you do. Not too many people do it… and it’s such a wonderful thing to experience.
I want an “outdoor office” too! What color are you grapes? 🙂 Thanks for stopping by!
